About me

I am Guillermo Villanueva Benito, currently a PhD researcher in Artificial Intelligence for Healthcare at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC-CNS) and the Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal). My research focuses on developing deep learning and vision-language models for medical imaging analysis, automated diagnosis, and clinical decision support.

I hold a double degree in Mathematics and Engineering Physics from the Interdisciplinary Higher Education Center (CFIS) at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), as well as an MSc in Advanced Mathematics and Mathematical Engineering (MAMME) from UPC.

My research interests lie at the intersection of artificial intelligence, medical imaging, and healthcare, with a particular emphasis on translating AI research into real-world clinical applications and impact.

Check out my recent work, where we use a lightweight language model to turn free-text cine cardiac magnetic resonance reports into structured data and to detect and mitigate ambiguity in them: CineScribe: LLM-based detection and mitigation of ambiguity in cine cardiac magnetic resonance reports (Computers in Biology and Medicine, 2026).
